Buyer

We are seeking a Buyer to join our team.

Job summary:
The Buyer purchases commodity lumber and other building materials for truss and wall panel manufacturing, and for job packs delivered to single family and multi family jobsites. The Buyer also manages inventory levels and usage to ensure cost-advantaged coverage for present and future needs. The position requires interaction with vendors, the Buyer Assistant, project coordinators, and yard, manufacturing, and field personnel. The Buyer reports to the Director of the department. This is a non-remote position.

Responsibilities:
• Determine buying needs and set strategies for current inventory and future coverage.
• Buy lumber and building materials through multiple vendors on a daily / weekly basis.
• Coordinate and oversee receipt of material with receiving personnel.
• Analyze inventory turns of material, suggest deletions of obsolete or dead stock.
• Implement cycle counts and coordinates with yard personnel to confirm accuracy of inventory levels.
• Monitor, observe, and receive feedback on quality and performance of materials purchased.
• Understand and stay current in commodity lumber market, recognize replacement costs, availability, trends, supply constraints and surpluses.
• Provide insight on purchasing strategy and market knowledge as it relates to product pricing, margins, and value engineering.
• Use product and market knowledge to offer solutions for designers and estimators.
• On occasion attend industry events, staying in touch with products, vendors, and customers.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred).
• 2-4 years of buying and inventory management experience (required).
• Prior experience in lumber and building materials (strongly preferred)
• Extensive knowledge of lumber and building material products, terminology, grades, species, treatments, and units of measure
• Ability to calculate mathematical quantities such as proportions, weighted averages, percentages, volume, density, area, $/MBF, $/MSF etc.
• Proficiency in math, algebra, and geometry.
• Ability to analyze large sets of data within reports.
• Good communication, time-management, and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:
• Work in an office setting at a computer desk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to walk and stay standing for extended periods of time.
• Able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 15 pounds.
